Understanding PRP
How does PRP hair treatment work?
Summerview Hair Loss Clinic · Published October 17, 2026
The short answer
PRP uses a sample of your own blood. It is processed to concentrate platelets, then injected into the scalp. Platelets release growth factors that may support hair growth. At Summerview, a physician assesses you and directly administers the injections; results vary.
A small blood sample starts the process.
The sample is separated and concentrated.
The physician gives small scalp injections.
What is PRP trying to do?
PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. Its growth factors may support activity around hair follicles. The mechanism is not fully understood, and an injection is not a promise of regrowth. Ask the physician what benefit is realistic for your type of hair loss.
How long is a treatment visit?
Allow about 30 minutes for a Summerview treatment visit, with extra time for consultation or review. Needles are involved. Pain relief helps reduce discomfort, but treatment should not be described as pain-free.
Is PRP a one-time treatment?
Summerview’s initial course is seven monthly visits, followed generally by maintenance visits six months apart. This is the clinic’s approach, not a universal schedule. Your physician explains the proposed course and full cost during consultation.
